The Berylune Blog

Crafty.
I had a mosey down to one of our local supermarkets this afternoon - not the new one with the funky vegetable vapor cooler thingy, the old one around the corner - when I happened upon a new crafty magazine!...
Bright and sunny
What a lovely day! Finally, it feels like winter is behind us. We actually had the shop door propped open all day, and popped to Cow for a milkshake. Yum.

The Cath Kidston van was out enjoying the sunshine today too! They are due to open on Thursday, which we're all very excited about. We think Cath will draw loads of lovely new shoppers to Leamington, and just being round the corner from us will...
Best. Deli. Ever.
We are very lucky to be positioned just around the corner from the best indie deli in Leamington. OK. Controversial statement there. In honesty, we haven't tried many others, because Rustic on Regent Street is so damn close, and so ridiculously good, that we haven't felt the need to go elsewhere.

Kate offers great coffee, fabulous sandwiches, home baked goodies and the best scotch eggs I've ever...
Tiny little people
It's not just me! Other people think tiny little people are cool too.

How awesome is it that she knits?

Redford v DiCaprio
It's a tough one isn't it?

For the folks at 'Pulp the Classics', the choice was simple:

Looks like Robert Redford. Rocking a mac.

Clearly, I'm going to have to go and see what Baz Luhrmann has in store for us before I decide which of the two makes a better Gatsby, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to be Leo.
You still have plenty of time to read 'The Great Gatsby' before our next book club...
Book bags. For books.
We have new things! Amy and Zoë  have been busy making book bags from retro fabric, modeled below by some random librarian we found in the street.

Oh, wait. That's Zoë
Hand made book bag, £12.95 Berylune. Home made frock, model's own.
Inside pocket in a contrasting fabric.

Aren't they pretty? We have many different patterns to choose from; they're all a bit different, but that's why we like...
A couple of finished projects
We've all been quite productive at Knit & Natter lately. There are a few projects nearly complete, my larksfoot blanket is almost done. I've been stalling it's completion as I don't have another project lined up yet... Maybe I'll try a bit of knitting again. Maybe.

Paul, modeling his completed jumper. Catalogue style.
One of Charlotte's many pairs of beautiful socks.

Charlotte has agreed to teach...
Necessity is the mother of invention
My lovely, lovely fella, Nic, bought me my Kitchenaid a couple of years ago. There are a few brands of mixer available, but Kitchenaid wins. They look the coolest, which means you are far more likely to leave them on display all of the time, which means you're far more likely to actually use them!

My favourite recipe book is The Grand Central Baking Book. The page containing their Oatmeal...
More rainbows. Seriously.
The bunnies had to go back to their hutches (well, shelves), as Easter has drawn to an end. So Amy put her rainbow-filled thinking cap on to come up with a new window display. What do you think the first thing that came to mind was?

A rainbow of stock. Of course.
Zoëkindly made us some more beautiful felt brooches - this time in the shape of a bird, with a plume of brightly coloured feathers. And...
Woke up, fell out of bed
Ugh. I hate the clocks moving forwards. Why can't they keep going back? OK, don't answer that. In fairness, the bank holiday did ease the pain somewhat, and I am liking the lighter evenings.

I actually have three alarms to wake me up in the morning. It's not that I don't like being up and about, it's just that my bed is sooo comfy. We have just (today) taken delivery of some new alarm clocks in the...
Garibaldi Bunnies
I've had a lovely Easter weekend! On Saturday, we had two crochet workshops with Denise, one for spring-like flowers, the other for granny squares.

Big grins!
Getting there...

On Easter Sunday I played hostess and cooked roast beef for some of my favourite people in my new house. We stuffed ourselves stupid (Amy made us two massive and delicious desserts), drank and played with play-dough. I can...
Flamingos and a startled cat
We have new jewellery! Some of it is a bit funky, such as our startled cat brooches:

Or maybe the cat is being tickled?

and our flamingo brooches:

Pretty kitsch...

Spring has sprung in our shop at least, even if it feels like deepest winter everywhere else!

If you like our rose earrings, you're going to love our new chrysanthemums! Do I need to bang on about how great our titanium posts are again?...
I should be unpacking...
but instead, I'm eating this yummy stuff!

Yes. That says 'Caramelised Biscuit Spread'. So basically, it's a big jar of biscuit, but it's the consistency of crunchy peanut butter. They sell it at Clarendon Fruit Store, and whilst it's completely ace, I won't be buying it again because it gets eaten way too quickly around here! Although I might buy another jar to make ice cream with. But just one.

Ra...
The Great Gatsby
My computer is plugged in and I have managed to locate my keyboard, so I must have moved in! So far I am liking the new house and the friendly people on my street.

I've had the following announcement through from Zoë:

Hello again, just to let you all know that our next book club choice is going to be The Great Gatsby. This is a good opportunity to read the book before going to see the new film.

We...
Grab a paint brush
Well. We have keys to our new Leamington abode. I don't think I'm underestimating when I say every single wall/surface/ceiling needs a coat of paint. And those that don't need painting need cleaning. So we've been getting on with that, with loads of help from my Mum, who is a painting goddess. Two rooms down, several to go.

The internet is being switched on on Tuesday, so the moving men are...
Berylune Book Club update
I have the following Book Club announcement from Zoë:
The first Berylune book club meeting went very well and was good fun. There were five of us which meant we were able to have a good discussion of our chosen book, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. If you haven’t read The Book Thief then we can highly recommend it!

We now have the difficult task of choosing our next book. We came up with a...
Look at all the pretties...
We mentioned the other day that the lovely Roisin - AKA Dolly Clackett - is going to be teaching Colette's 'Hazel' pattern in our studio next month. Click here for details.

Well, the delivery of Colette patterns has now arrived! And very pretty they are too.

We are very impressed with the clarity of the instructions. Also, have you ever noticed that patterns tend to have rubbish pictures on the...
What. A. View.
We have a new view from the counter! Frankly, it rocks. I find myself spacing out, trying to choose which thing I would like to take home with me.

Ahhh.

We have some new stuff! I've been meaning to photograph it for a couple of weeks and have been failing to find time. Sorry!

We have Paddywax candles. They smell divine and come in the prettiest jars. They are made from soy wax, so you can wash the...
Orla, Orla, Orla
We have shied away from buying widely recognised brands in our shop. We're small and independent and we want to be as unique as we can. However, no-one (that we're aware of) in Leamington stocks one of our very favourite designer's interiors range. Parkinsonshave Orla Kiely handbags (with some lovely designs on sale in the window I noticed the other day!), but no beautiful tins or ceramics to be...
Are you a member of the Tufty Club?
About a year ago, when we were daring each other in to opening a shop, we found something fabulous at a market. I was digging through a pile of stuff when I came across a bag of fabric backdrops and animal shapes. We vaguely recognised them, but couldn't put our fingers on where from. So we bought it, because we liked them.

We got home and spread them all out. The fabric backdrops were illustrated...
R O Y G B I V.
We like rainbows around here. Some of us more than others:

Just about everything in our shop is sorted in to rainbow order. If ever you're a bit bored and fancy baking Amy's noodle, pop in and mix up the order of things. It's a source of endless amusement.

You may have noticed from the above rainbow of satchels that we have a new colour in stock.

Purple. Oh yes.

It's rich and beautiful and we love...
