The Berylune Blog

Denise is on the telly!
Denise, our resident crochet teacher (well, not quite, but she might as well be with all the cake she eats), has been on TV this week!

Denise is the one in the pretty green frock.  BBC © 2012

Paul Martin's Handmade Revolution appears to be a bit like Dragon's Den, only without any money! The winner at the end of the series will have his or her piece displayed in the V & A shop. Denise is interviewed...
Oh, so tired
We have been taking our C-word deliveries in this week. The realisation that we have nowhere to put everything came after delivery one arrived (3 boxes of brightly coloured satchels). By parcel three (some very exciting cushions, but more on those later), flat panic had ensued.

No Amy, you can't stay in there.
Ooh.

Add to that a flaky wall, a lack of storage and a general disliking of the back room,...
Exciting new jewellery stuffs!
We are having to install some new display in the shop this week, on account of all the new jewellery. So our card display as it is will be moving to make space. If you see Amy & I stood frowning at a bit of wall, please don't be surprised.

Some of the new things we have:

Little jumper cards with teeny button earrings - only £2.25 a pair.
Teeny tiny little buttons. Only they're earrings. With titanium...
Knitting for Knockers continues...

And we're in the paper! I've had a sex change of course, from now on just call me Emil. But hey. We're in the paper!

Do you think Leamington Courier will receive complaints about their use of the word 'knockers'?!
Thanks to all the ladies that popped in today for a cuppa and some knitting:
More pink squares for our top secret project! We haven't got enough yet though, so if anyone fancies coming...
It's all gone bonkers
This week's Knit & Natter:

There were BOYS there. BOYS. Two of them. Knitting and talking about football. At the same time, breaking stereotypes all over the place.

We also had a lovely group of ladies! We counted 19 at one point; if you've been in our craft studio, you'll wonder quite how we managed it. Looking back, we have no idea. The result - plenty of nattering and at least a little bit of...
It's off da hook
Well. Unless you buy one of these little chaps and hang it back up again. We've had these hooks for a while, but they are now available in some new colours, which makes for a very pleasing rainbow picture.

Ahh. Rainbow order.

We think they look like little elephants. From Mars.

Alex popped in to our shop on Saturday (and got roped in to pink knitting, poor thing!), with her lovely green satchel....
Knitting for Knockers Kick Off
Pink wool aplenty in the studio today! Friends of the shop came to help us with our Knitting for Knockers project. Also a chap from the Leamington Courier came with a big camera; there was no convincing him to stay and knit though, he had important Saturday afternoon football matches to be getting to!
Our knitters hard at work. Look at the size of that tea pot!
Thanks to everyone who came, we...
Blow on it. Maybe it'll dry quicker.
Amy has been printing with her newly carved lino cuts this week. We have notebooks, cards, C-word cards and tags for our re-vamped bobbin necklaces (now only £7.50!). I bagsied a notebook.

It's all a bit sticky.

It's so lovely to be able to spread out in the studio. It is a truly colossal table! No danger of gravy being spilt on your work and heaps of room for cutting.

I've found a Friday Fancy...
*GASP*
Getting home from work is always a pleasure. But today, there was a 'sorry we missed you' card on my doormat. I missed something? What could it be? Something too big for the letterbox, that's what.
It's been left next door? I stop myself from jumping the fence to fetch it.

Parcel retrieved.

The washi tape came! We have silver and gold and chevrons and spots and stripes and snowflakes and stars and...
Knitting for Knockers
Yes. You heard me. We have decided to give a little back this month. We aim to teach no less than 50, FIFTY, people to knit. With pink wool.

Our lovely local wool shops Warwick Wools and the Wool Warehouse have agreed to donate some pink wool to the cause. Our teachers, Tracy and Denise, are generously donating their time. We're donating the room, needles, scissors and copious tea bags.

All funds...
Look at all the pretties
I realised that we don't have many pictures on here from around the shop! I tend to take things up to my photo corner, as it's brighter and less cluttered than the shop.

So. Here are some pictures from around the shop.

Rainbow Coloured Satchels! I dare you to mess up the colour order, it drives Amy potty ;)
Pretty accessories table!

Which reminds me, I have been making teeny tiny origami bows, which...
New Cards!
Amy has been lino cutting designs for our C-word gift wrap this week. Well. She should have been. Are cameras festive? I think not. No indeed.

So now we have camera greetings cards instead.
And buttons.

We had a great knit & natter session this week, we had a few new faces, including the lovely Kate from Rustic. Everyone seemed to be knitting in green. I have now finished 4 granny squares. My...
Don't mention the 'C' word...
Christmas. Oh god. It's like a train on the west coast main line, hurtling towards me at 110mph. Where did this last week go? More to the point, where did September go?

We have so much to do, so many things to make, stamp, stitch and glue. I've been ordering like a mad woman. Parcels are arriving every day.

We had a cushion making workshop on Saturday. Here is Dawn's lovely creation:

We ate Cherry &...
So, what do you do with too much Origami?
Mademoiselle Maurice would suggest something a bit like this:

Origami street art.

I can't tell you how much I love this. I can't imagine how it would feel to be walking along the Seine on a sunny day and come across this burst of shape and colour. I've walked along the Seine on sunny days. Sure, it's nice. But this is amazing.

I would want to touch it before a light shower ruined it completely.

Som...
I just can't stop...
...making these little fellas.

Origami Bows

It started our with this really good tutorial on a rainy afternoon. Then I bought this. Now I keep making them. I've even got a special little pair of scissors I keep to one side just for origami. Well, bows actually, because my origami skill beyond bows is really very limited.

I find it incredibly relaxing. Achieving a state of relaxation in a small...
Giant buttons. Seriously
We took delivery of the most enormous buttons I've ever seen this week:

I've photographed them on a scrabble board next to some normal sized buttons to give you some idea of scale. I was going to take a picture of one in my hand, but you literally couldn't see any hand for button.

They're 12cm across. Pi tells me that means they're 37.699cm round the edge.

They're lovely smooth wood and very...
Wedding Panic

A friend of our shop, Jackie, is getting married this weekend. On Wednesday Jackie realised the table numbers she had ordered hadn't arrived! Berylune to the rescue. Well, Amy, some Kraft card, a vintage magazine, glue, scissors and a little imagination.

Et voilá:

Jackie was very pleased with them, they'll fit in with her beautiful wedding a treat. With any luck, someone at the party will take some...
What to do with Washi - Part 10
We're still finding uses for Washi.

We had a slice of cake left over from Tuesday night's Knit & Natter. Perfect for displaying these pretty Washi flags; all you need are some skewers and a pair of scissors. And some Washi tape of course, available to purchase in our Etsy shop if you're not local to us!

These look great on plain frosted cake with some tapered birthday candles. We've used man-sized...
Knit & Natter Nonsense
Our 3rd Knit & Natter took place on Tuesday. Well, 4th technically, but we failed to invite anyone to the first one!

I crocheted my 3rd granny square, I think I'm going to use them to make a tea cosy for the shop's tea pot. Laura learnt to purl. Lucy showed off her beautiful coloured charity shop wool purchase. Amy put us all to shame by knitting a Christmas present. Mum brought her crochet samples...
Worn out.
I've had a lovely weekend. The weather was glorious and I got to spend all of it outdoors. I saw a number of people carrying coconuts with straws sticking out of the top and someone was playing Bob Marley across a loudspeaker on Saturday morning. No, I wasn't in the Caribbean, it was Leamington Food Festival this weekend! They had a non-food section called 'I Love Leamington', where we had a...
It's that time of year again
The nights are drawing in. It's a bit darker in the mornings when you wake up super-early. Some look forward to the coming weeks, for them this time of year holds special leaf-kicking, or conker stringing, or scarf-wearing magic. For me, supermarkets and Paperchase become sacred places where I can go to browse and sniff the beautiful new stationery offerings.

We're not in the same league as...
